FISHING IN THE OUTER BANKS
Fishing License Will Be Required January 1, 2007
A Coastal Recreational Fishing License will be required for all
fishermen who recreationally fish in coastal waters in North
Carolina effective January 1, 2007. The license can be purchased on a 10-day, annual, or lifetime
basis, or combined with a variety of licenses issued by the NC
Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC).
The new license will be available from any Division of Marine
Fisheries office, WRC license agents (which include Wal-Mart and
Bait and Tackle stores), online at WRC's Website
www.ncwildlife.org
or by calling toll-free to 888-248-6834. To view license options or for more license information, please
visit
www.ncfisheries.net
or call the Division of Marine Fisheries at 252-726-7021 or
800-682-2632.
Red drum commercial harvest closed - All
North Carolina waters were closed to commercial red drum harvests at
noon on Thursday, April 3, 2008. The closure is necessary because
the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries estimates the yearly harvest
is approaching the 250,000-pound commercial cap implemented by the
N.C. Red Drum Fishery Management Plan.
The closure does not affect recreational
catches of red drum. The recreational harvest limits remain at a one
fish per person per day of a size between 18 inches and 27 inches.
